THE ARTIST BEHIND THE SACRED SITE EASEL
Travis Shilling (b.1978) is an accomplished second generation Ojibwe painter, director, playwright and storyteller from the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. His expressive brush stokes and unique colour palette take the viewer to a fascinating landscape that explores the impact of the developing world and climate change on the environment. His work examines the struggles, survival and determination of being human and trying to adapt to the ever changing realities of this complicated time in history. Shilling's work can be found in public & private collections worldwide including the permanent collection at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Museum of the American Indian, the Citadelle Art Foundation, and Hart House at the University of Toronto. Travis is represented by Ingram Gallery in Toronto.

In 2018 Travis co-founded Otter Art Club as a way to give back to his community by providing youth access to professional art supplies in a real studio setting. Shilling's not-for-profit has worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters, McMichael Gallery, CBC, Mariposa Folk Festival, schools across Ontario and the Red Road to Recovery Program. The Club aims to inspire thoughtful conversations and build an appreciation for art, nature, history and community.
